The Shamwari Game Reserve Anti Poaching Unit recently took receipt of a cheque for R60,000 from the proceeds of the Club 100 fund raiser, “Christmas in June”, which will be well utilised for infrastructure and a much needed Observation Point on the reserve.

Rodney Visser, Head of Shamwari Group’s Security said, “We’re going into high season, in terms of poaching threats in the Eastern Cape, a critical time when our Unit is on high alert, so this money will be well spent and much appreciated. The money is being put to immediate use, with the Observation Point being built as we speak.”

Visser added that their Team shares and regulates vital information with other reserves in the area, and that it’s vital to keep up to date with technological advances, to proactively combat this scourge.

Chair of the Ladies Club 100, Olga Hafner said, “Our club selected the Anti Poaching Unit as the cause is close to our heart, the rhino species is becoming endangered in our province and, equally important, the spend of our monies will be responsibly managed; concerning statistics of around 919 rhino killed to date, growing by 3 per day, also determined our choice of beneficiary as well as a call to action!”
