Latest News Shamwari Group Offers New All-Year-Round Experiences
10 May 2013

For 2013 Shamwari Group has launched multiple new safari options and initiatives for local and international guests to truly enjoy the beauty of Africa whilst creating greater awareness for wildlife conservation all year round.

Due to the Forever Wild campaign, which continues in 2013, to date Shamwari Group has raised over R1, 500, 000 and climbing for the Wilderness Foundation’s as part of the initiative to help save rhinos throughout South Africa.

At Jock Safari Lodge, Kruger National Park, all the bedrooms are in the process of a complete soft upgrade and a new adventure and accommodation option is the newly launched Jock Explorer. This Explorer offers something totally unique for guests - an experiential insight of a bygone era into this remote Big 5 wilderness, as did the legendary Percy Fitzpatrick in the 18th century. Jock Explorer now complements the highly successful Sanbona Explorer and Shamwari Explorer. The camp and tents have been meticulously recreated with the similar style camp beds, canvas washing basins, lanterns etc in order to transport guests back in time. The Explorer operates from April until the end of October and is R2, 800 per person sharing, per night.

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, just outside Cape Town, has launched its new ‘boat safari experience’ adding to the many other unique experiences on offer in this Karoo wilderness reserve. The ‘Peregrine’, named after the Peregrine Falcon, takes guests on a ‘water safari’ on the impressive Bellair Dam situated in the middle of this vast reserve in order to reach what has been, up to now, unchartered territory and present guests with a new experience and perspective of the Big 5 wildlife, marine and birdlife.

Newly designed canvas has been installed at Dwyka Tented Camp and the Sanbona Explorer – a two day walking safari with accommodation in mobile tents - has proven to be a great Karoo experience offering guests the opportunity to learn more about this historical land with its unique flora and fauna.

Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape will see a roll out of a ‘soft refurbishment’ for Eagles Crag, Riverdene Family Lodge and Long Lee Manor. The Shamwari Explorer has become a unique way to experience Shamwari, and many guests have opted to combine this with a stay at one of the lodges as part of their safari adventure.

A new kiddies tent has been erected in the Sarili Lodge courtyard giving younger guests even more fun options to explore at their leisure.

Shamwari Group General Manager Joe Cloete says, We believe Shamwari Group offers not only new and unique experiences within the provinces the reserves and lodges are located but presents educational safari and conservational experiences year round.”
