The Jock Pride in peaceful days...

One of the "Mlambane Boys" that may have lost a territorial battle to the “Stolsnek” male lions.

One of the "Mlambane Boys" that may have lost a territorial battle to the “Stolsnek” male lions.

Over the past month, 3 of the 5 “Stolsnek” male lions started moving north from their normal territory into the Jock Pride’s area.

They’ve been extremely vocal and it appeared as if they won a few battles with the ruling 2 males, the “Mlambane Boys”. The “Mlambane Boys” took this territory over 3 years ago and produced a few litters of which 4 juveniles are still alive (3 males and 1 female).

On Saturday morning the Guides found one of the Jock females mating with one of the “Stolsnek” males close to the edge of the 2 pride’s territories. This is possibly an indication that they now rule this part of the Kruger National Park.

The rest of the Jock pride has not been seen for a few days and we hope that the juveniles weren’t killed by the new males. It often happens that male lions kill younger lions when they take over a territory.

We will keep you posted as this new chapter in the lion dynamics of Kruger unfolds at Jock.
