Shamwari Game Reserve gathered its team of staff members to assist the Bavumeleni Educare Centre, in Paterson, with painting, general maintenance and repairs in honour of Mandela’s birthday, 18 July 2013, along with Minister Derek Hanekom, MP from the Sundays River Valley who brought mattress, blankets and food parcels.
The Shamwari team worked diligently alongside the Educare Centre’s staff to fix longstanding issues with the building. Shamwari sponsored all of the paint and necessary hardware for the repairs needed to the interior and exterior. The painting team were there for almost a week in order to ensure that the job was complete and ready for Madiba’s birthday. Once the repairs were done Shamwari also restocked the first aid boxes to ensure that the children had everything they needed.
At the sister property outside Cape Town, Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, celebrated the special day by inviting children from the neighbouring farms and those that live on the reserve to experience the ‘Sanbona Strive to Educate Project’. This project has been created to expose them to the environment in which their parents, family and friends work as well as conservation and environmental issues. Sanbona hopes that through this exposure to the natural wonders they will take ownership and have pride in the same whilst becoming young conservationists and custodians of the environment they are a part of.
Comments Group General Manager, Joe Cloete: “It’s paramount to support the community we live and work in and one and all benefit from doing so. Whenever we have the means, manpower and skill set to help we will support our neighbours.”
